Design Denmark

Welcome to the Design Denmark blog!

This is where we share our knowledge of Danish design, the Danish lifestyle and how to achieve the Danish look in your home.  We will also keep you up to date with the latest trends and designs coming out of Denmark.

Firstly to start off, we thought it would be best to give you the background story of how Design Denmark came about.

"It seemed like a good idea at the time" as Napoleon says.

This is where it all began.

In August 2000 we opened our doors down at the Viaduct Basin under the iconic brand Trip Trap - selling outdoor furniture, teak accessories, timber flooring and natural floor oils. This was a fully integrated concept store built around the integrity of Trip Trap's founder Ib Moller. These were heady days amidst the hype of Americas Cup.

In 2003 following a trademark dispute over the name and the perceived confusion over a children's chair, we changed our name to Design Denmark. This opportune change, allowed us to represent and distribute the very best of Danish design. In 2007 we moved to our building in Maidstone Street, Ponsonby. This move allowed us to have every aspect of our business under one roof and enabled us to provide customer parking at the rear of our building.

We are often asked what is the uniqueness of Danish design? It all has to do with design DNA. Every design has a story and as we believe if you cannot identify the designer it is probably not worth having.

Today, we represent the very best of Danish design brands - lighting, furniture, accessories, natural oils and textiles.

We hope you enjoy our informative posting on our blog in the future. Bill Carrig (founder)
