dk3's 10th Anniversary

60 years ago, Danish furniture designer Poul Cadovius introduced his first chair to the market. 10 years ago, dk3 was established as a furniture brand. To celebrate this, dk3 have relaunched the Poul Cadovius PIA CHAIR, and a brand new dining table, created in cooperation between dk3 founder Jacob Plejdrup and Danish Designer Christian Troels.

As a furniture designer, Poul Cadovius was mostly known for his iconic shelving systems, like the ROYAL SYSTEM from 1948, but he wanted to create a chair in the spirit of the time. Inspired by other design chairs of the fifties, he wanted to create a chair that was more light and "petite", both in physical weight and in design expression. The chair was developed on a "less is more" concept, with focus on the least possible material consumption, still maintaining a high level of details and excellent comfort.

The thin, conical-shaped solid wood legs give a light visual expression, which is further emphasised by two fine details; the hand-sanded rounding at the top of the back legs, and the finger joined front legs. The seat is made of hand-woven paper cordel, and the backrest is moulded, which gives an optimal seating comfort.

TEN TABLE | Christian Troels & Jacob Plejdrup, 2019

When dk3 was established in 2009, we were among the first brands to introduce the plank table to the Scandinavian market. Therefore, we could not find a better way of celebrating our 10th anniversary, than by launching an anniversary table, as a natural continuation of the plank table design principles.

With the aim to take this design heritage to the next level, dk3 founder Jacob Plejdrup has developed the TEN TABLE in cooperation with Danish designer Christian Troels. The designs of Christian Troels are characterized by a great level of details and craftsmanship accuracy, which, in the TEN TABLE, is perfectly merged with Jacob Plejdrup's basic ideas on large dining tables.

The table top and table legs are made of solid wood, but despite the table's heaviness in size and weight, it still has a lightness, which is emphasized by the refined crafted details like the beautiful vertical grooves of the legs and the distinctive, organic-shaped table top. The slightly curved shape of the table top does not have any straight lines at all, and in combination with the sloping table edge, it looks like the table top is constantly moving. The curving movement continues on the extension leaves, which completes the overall impression and gives the table a unique expression.
